Frequently asked questions.
Who do you work with?
I work with individual adults.
How are sessions offered?
I primarily work with people via telephone and online. This means I can work with people across Australia and internationally. Online sessions are through Zoom, but an alternative platform can be arranged: let me know if this is something you need.
I can also see you in person in Brisbane, and alternatively offer walk and talk or outreach sessions.
How much are fees?
Full fee: $110 for a 50min session
Reduced fees can be discussed, please get in contact if you have barriers to affording sessions.
Can I claim a Medicare rebate for my session?
Unfortunately, a Medicare rebate cannot be claimed for your session. I have attempted to keep session fees similar to the gap payment required with other providers that are able to offer Medicare rebates, for this reason.
Do I need a referral?
You don’t need a referral to book a session with me.
How does therapy work?
Beginning counselling can absolutely be daunting, and feelings of nervousness are normal. I have a professional but relaxed and friendly style, and my aim is to make you feel comfortable. Evidence-based talk therapy has been shown to significantly improve a range of concerns. Therapy is not purely advice-giving or telling you what you ‘should’ be doing: it is a process that allows you to explore your concerns, work on healing and create plans moving forward that suit you, with the help of your therapist.
The first session will be a few intake questions, and me just getting to know what brought you to therapy. I want to know what you hope to achieve (if you know!), your expectations and give you the space to ask me any questions also.
The number of sessions you will need will depend on your goals. You may want just a few sessions to work through a single issue, or you may want a more long-term space for transformation and unpacking deeper concerns.
Sessions are confidential, and I will discuss any limits or exceptions to confidentiality such as duty of care and duty to disclose with you in-session. Exceptions could include a legal subpoena of my records, risk of harm to yourself or others, or a disclosure of risk of harm to a child or other vulnerable person.
